Adopting a new pet can be an incredibly daunting task. Some of us have grown up around animals our whole lives, others are completely knew to taking care of a furry friend. If it’s your case, don’t worry, as long as you have high speed internet, you can learn how to be a real pet master!  The following sites have a wealth of information to get you on the right track to properly caring for your new friend.

Dogster

Dogster is an incredibly easy to navigate blog devoted to dog care, training, and discussion. The “Book of Dog” section is especially invaluable to the knew pet owner. It is sectioned off into categories: different breeds, new puppy care, proper feeding, health, training, and grooming. It is also host to its own magazine that dishes about current events and fun things in the dog lover world. Its companion site, Catster is done up in the same fashion.

Vetinfo

Vetinfo is the go-to source for everything that could go wrong with your dog or cat. It includes a short run down on almost every common illness or parasite that can get into your pet and cause havoc. You should of course consult a veterinarian if anything serious arises but this is a great place to trouble shoot with. It also contains articles on prevention and a run down of scheduled vaccinations your animals should receive.

The Small Animal Channel

For some people a cat or dog really isn’t their speed. This website is a massive database dedicated to the proper care of much smaller domestic animals such as hamsters, bunnies, guinea pigs, birds or turtles.

Pet Nutrition Alliance

This website is invaluable at helping you decipher common pet food labels to make sure your animal is getting the right nutrition, in the right amount, they need to thrive. A lot of common pet food brands, especially the cheaper grocery store variety, hold about the same nutrition as a McDonald’s cheeseburger. This is nor healthy for your pet at all so its important to know beforehand what’s good in a pet food and what is not.

Dog Friendly

Dog Friendly is a great website for those of us that do a lot of traveling and what to take our best dog friends along with us. It includes a directory and reviews of dog friendly hotels, parks and camp sites both domestic and abroad.

With just a cursory look at these sites you should be well on your way to getting to know your new family member.
